[Watch] Pooja Vastrakar strikes twice to send back Pakistan openers in IND vs PAK 2024 Women’s Asia Cup

Pooja Vastrakar struck twice to provide India Women a brilliant start with the ball against Pakistan Women in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup game in Dambulla on Friday, July 19. Vastrakar dismissed Pakistan openers Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali cheaply to leave the Women in Green at 26/2 after 3.5 overs.

Vastrakar provided the first breakthrough in the second over. She banged in a short delivery outside off and Feroza went for the pull but ended up playing it with the toe end off the bat. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur ran forward from mid-on to complete an easy catch.

In the fourth over, Pooja Vastrakar bowled a similar delivery and Muneeba tried to play it square on the off-side but ended up getting a top edge that carried to Jemimah Rodrigues at cover.

Pooja Vastrakar and Renuka Thakur help India Women dominate Pakistan Women in Women’s Asia Cup

A clinical bowling display from Pooja Vastrakar and Renuka Thakur helped India Women dominate Pakistan Women after being asked to bowl first in the Women’s Asia Cup match. Thakur finished her spell with figures of 2/14 in her four overs. Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil also chipped in with one scalp each.

At the time of writing, Pakistan were 61/6 with Tuba Hassan and Fatima Sana at the crease. Iram Javed was the last batter to be dismissed, lbw by Renuka.

Notably, Seven-time winners India are defending champions of the Women’s Asia Cup. They will look to start off their campaign with a win against arch-rivals Pakistan, who are yet to win a single trophy in the tournament.

India also lead Pakistan 11:3 in head-to-head clashes in Women's T20Is. They beat Pakistan by seven wickets during their last meeting at 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.

The Women in Blue will next face UAE and Nepal in Group A clashes on July 21 and 23, respectively. The two semifinals will be played on July 26, followed by the final on July 28.
