[Watch] Poor judgement costs Shubman Gill his wicket on Day 3 of IND vs NZ 2024 3rd Test
After top-scoring in the first innings of the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai, Shubman Gill endured a disappointing dismissal in the second innings. The right-handed batter had a complete misjudgement and left a delivery from Ajaz Patel, which crashed into the stumps.
The dismissal occurred in the fourth over of the innings as the left-arm spinner pitched the ball on fourth stump and it went in with the arm. With Gill not covering the line of the stumps properly, the ball hit the top of off and the 25-year-old had to walk back for a single. It was also Ajaz's first wicket of the innings.
The Punjab-born cricketer had scored a gritty 90 in the first innings and added 96 with Rishabh Pant to help the home side cut the deficit significantly. The right-hander was dismissed by Ajaz in the first innings too, nicking one to slip.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old, who had snaffled a fifer in India's first dig, also went on to dismiss Virat Kohli (1) and Sarfaraz Khan (1). The home side had wrapped up the Black Caps' innings within 10 minutes of play on Day 3 as they were all out for 174 from being 171/9, eventually finishing with a 146-run lead.
Day 2 of the Test saw the Indian team resume on 86/4 as Gill and Pant played positively to chip away at New Zealand's first-innings total of 235. After the hosts managed a slender lead of 28, the Kiwis lost some early wickets. However, Will Young scored a gritty half-century, while contributions from Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips ensured that the Black Caps held a competitive total.
The first and second Tests saw New Zealand register comprehensive victories to win their first-ever series on Indian soil.
