[Watch] Prithvi Shaw hits 33-ball half-century against Middlesex in English One-Day Cup 2024
Indian batter Prithvi Shaw looked in fine form while playing for Northamptonshire in their One-Day Cup 2024 match against Middlesex at Radlett Cricket Club on Monday, July 29. Northamptonshire won the toss and chose to bat first in the contest.
The side were off to a dismal start, losing two early wickets. Prithvi Shaw steadied the ship for his team, notching up an impressive half-century. The right-handed batter hit a 33-ball half-century. He crossed the 50-run mark with a single in the 11th over.
You can watch him bring up his half-century here:
Prithvi Shaw scored 78 runs off 56 deliveries. The 24-year-old's knock ended in the 19th over after being caught by Josh De Caires off Luke Hollman's bowling.
The Indian opener's 2024 One-Day Cup campaign began on a poor note, getting out for just nine runs against Derbyshire. He had a better outing against Hampshire, scoring 40 runs in 34 balls.
It is worth mentioning that Shaw had a fantastic One-Day Cup season last year for Northamptonshire before being ruled out due to an injury. He grabbed the headlines with a scintillating 244-run knock against Somerset. The talented batter followed it up with a stunning unbeaten 125 against Durham.
"He should be someone that's in every team" - Ricky Ponting on Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw didn't get enough game time during the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). He was benched on multiple occasions by the Delhi Capitals (DC) team management, featuring in just eight out of the team's 14 league matches.
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who was DC's head coach in IPL 2024, recently spoke about how Shaw has immense talent which should make him an automatic selection in most teams. He mentioned that the Delhi think tank couldn't find a slot for the batter in IPL 2024.
During an interview with Cricbuzz, Ponting said about Shaw:
"Prithvi Shaw shouldn't be an outlier. He should be someone that's in every team; the first pick in most teams with the skill that he's got. He's had a chance to represent India as a youngster, making a hundred on his Test debut. And as you say, halfway through this year, we couldn't find a slot for him in our DC team. So that's disappointing for me as a coach not to be able to make certain players better and get the best out of them."
Shaw scored 198 runs across eight innings in IPL 2024 at an average of 24.75. He finished with a solitary half-century.
