[Watch] "Putting an end to all the masala and all the spice" - Virat Kohli begins his much-awaited interaction with Gautam Gambhir on a cheeky note
Two of the biggest figures in Team India's dressing room - Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir - came face-to-face for a highly-anticipated interaction ahead of the home season. The pair have had an eventful past, leading to wild speculation among fans.
Given Kohli's tussles with Gambhir in the past, there were concerns among the fans over the latter succeeding Rahul Dravid as head coach of the team. However, the duo had shown signs of putting the past to bed during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) before joining forces with Team India.
Kohli began the interaction by saying it would end all rumors and calm the people who attempted to spread the fire.
"Here we are, we have come a long way, and putting an end to all the masala and all the spice. Gauti bhai, we have come a long way from playing together for a long time. Me coming into the team when you guys were obviously established and had that amazing dressing room that I became a part of, then playing a lot of cricket together and having our ups and downs," Kohli said in the video released by the BCCI.
Gambhir is all set to oversee his maiden Test assignment during the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh.
Gambhir and Kohli have had some memorable moments on the field
The two players hailing from Delhi played domestic cricket together, before featuring in Team India's top order. They shared a memorable match-winning partnership at the Eden Gardens against Sri Lanka in 2009, leading to Gambhir handing his Player of the Match award to Kohli for his maiden ODI hundred.
The pair also shared a crucial partnership during the 2011 ODI World Cup final, but their relationship turned sour after an ugly interaction during the 2013 IPL season. Their bond deteriorated with yet another face-off during the 2023 IPL.
Now with all of those troubles in the past, the duo have joined forces together to oversee a crucial phase in Indian cricket.
