[Watch] Quinton de Kock gets run out without facing a ball in NED vs SA T20 World Cup match

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock lost his wicket in an unfortunate manner in the T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands in New York on Saturday (June 8). The left-hander was run out after a miscommunication with his opening partner Reeza Hendricks. De Kock departed for a diamond duck.

The dismissal came off the very first ball of Proteas’ run-chase. Vivian Kingma bowled a full-length ball down the leg side and Hendricks failed to guide it down the leg side. The ball hit the pad and went towards the short fine leg. The right-hander set off for the run before deciding against it.

Kock was stranded more than halfway through the pitch as the fielder Paul van Meekeren threw it back to the bowler’s end. Max O'Dowd collected the ball and dislodged the bails in a flash.

South Africa in a spot of bother against Netherlands in T20 World Cup

A clinical bowling display has helped the Netherlands dominate South Africa in the T20 World Cup match on Saturday.

At the time of writing, SA were 29/4 after nine overs, with Tristan Stubbs and David Miller at the crease.

Apart from Quinton de Kock, skipper Aiden Markram too departed for a three-ball duck. Reeza Henricks and Heinrich Klassen were also dismissed for single digits.

Asked to bat first, the Netherlands scored 103/9 in their allotted 20 overs. The top order failed to deliver, but Sybrand Engelbrecht stood tall, scoring 40 off 45 with the help of a six and two boundaries. Logan van Beek also chipped in with 23 off 22, comprising three boundaries. Vikramjit Singh and skipper Scott Edwards were the other batters to reach double digits.

Ottniel Baartman was the leading wicket-taker for the Proteas, returning with exceptional figures of 4/11, while Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje bagged two wickets apiece.

South Africa beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in their opening T20 World Cup match. They will next face Bangladesh in New York on June 10. Netherlands, too, began their T20 World Cup campaign with a six-wicket win over Nepal. They will next lock horns with Bangladesh at Kingstown on June 13.
