[Watch] R Ashwin bowls Mominul Haque with an off-spinner’s dream ball in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test
Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin managed to get the better of Mominul Haque with a peach on Day 3 of the Test match against Bangladesh on Saturday (September 21). The M.A. Chidambaram Stadium plays host to the first Test of this series.
Mominul Haque walked out to bat after Shadman Islam was dismissed by Ashwin. The 38-year-old has a penchant for bowling against left handers and was persisted to bowl with from one end. Mominul Haque had played a few shots around and was looking really good but on the last ball of the 30th over, the Rajasthan Royals spinner got one to turn away and beat the bat, taking the off stump along with him as well.

Mominul Haque became Ashwin's second scalp of the day after Shadman Islam. He scored two boundaries and managed to get 13 runs in 24 balls, leaving Bangladesh at 124/3 after his dismissal.

Bangladesh began their chase in some style as Shadman Islam (35 off 68) and Zakir Hasan (33 off 47) shared a fifty-run partnership between them, making them the first Bangladeshi pair to register a half-century opening stand against India in India. Jasprit Bumrah scalped the wicket of the latter before Ashwin managed to pick up the wicket of Shadman Islam. Ashwin would then go on to add Mominul Haque (13 off 24) and Mushfiqur Rahim (13 off 11) to his wickets tally as well.
Early today, India batted from their overnight score of 81/3 and went to score 287/4 d in 64 overs. Rishabh Pant (109 off 128) and Shubman Gill (119 off 176) went on to score hundreds as the hosts took a lead of 514 runs and set the visitors a target of 515 runs.
Bangladesh are on 158/4 after 37.2 overs as bad light forced umpires to call it stumps on Day 3. They need 357 runs to take a 1-0 series lead.
