[Watch] Rachin Ravindra gets the final wicket as the Washington Freedom wins MLC 2024

Rachin Ravindra dismissed Juanoy Drysdale to get the last wicket as the Washington Freedom won the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 by defeating the San Francisco Unicorns in the final by 96 runs on Sunday, July 28. The match took place at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

After winning the toss, the San Francisco Unicorns decided to bowl first. However, things didn't turn out the way they had hoped, as the Washington-based side ended their 20 overs at 207/5.

In reply, the Unicorns had a terrible start as they lost three wickets in the powerplay, including star batters Jake Fraser-McGurk (3) and Finn Allen (13). The Washington bowlers were all over the Unicorns as they kept taking wickets at regular intervals.

The Unicorns were bowled out for 111 in 16 overs, with Carmi le Roux (20*) top-scoring for the team. Rachin Ravindra took the last wicket as the Washington Freedom lifted the MLC 2024 trophy.

Captain Steven Smith guides Washington Freedom to their first title

After being asked to bat first, the Washington Freedom didn't have the best of starts as Travis Head (9) was dismissed in the second over by his countryman Pat Cummins.

Keeper-batter Andries Gous (21) and Rachin Ravindra (11) also fell cheaply. However, captain Steven Smith continued scoring from one end and was later supported by Glenn Maxwell, who smashed 40 runs off 22 balls.

Smith played a captain’s knock, scoring 88 runs off 52 balls, with seven fours and six maximum, as the Washington side finished at 207/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Pat Cummins took two wickets for the San Francisco Unicorns.

In response, the Unicorns never looked in the game, with the Washington bowlers securing consistent breakthroughs, eventually winning the game by a huge margin of 96 runs.
