[Watch] Rahul Dravid checks on a dejected Virat Kohli after he fell cheaply in IND vs ENG 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal
Virat Kohli looked dejected in the dressing room after falling cheaply in the 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal between India and England. The Providence Stadium in Guyana hosted the clash on Thursday, June 27. That came as the right-hander departed for run-a-ball nine, cleaned up by pacer Reece Topley.
Kohli looked promising, hitting a six and taking a double off Topley in the third over, but failed to consolidate. It was the first time that he failed to score a fifty in a T20 World Cup semifinal.
In a video doing the rounds on X, Kohli could be seen in a sad mood as India head coach Rahul Dravid reached out to check on him. Watch the clip below:
Virat Kohli has failed to live up to expectations in the 2024 T20 World Cup, scoring just 75 runs in seven games. The Delhi-born batter departed for a duck in his previous outing against Australia.
Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav steady India after early blows in IND vs ENG 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal; Rain plays hide & seek
India captain Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav have steadied India after Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant fell early in the semifinal.
The Men in Blue were 65/2 after eight overs, with Rohit (37 off 26) and Suryakumar (13 off seven) at the crease when rain interrupted play. Pant was the last batter to be dismissed, caught by Jonny Bairstow at mid-wicket off Sam Curran. He made four runs off six balls before departing.
Rohit Sharma and Co. will look to continue their unbeaten streak in the mega ICC event. They will also be keen to avenge their 10-wicket loss to England at the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal in Adelaide.
On the other hand, Jos Buttler-led side has lost to Australia and South Africa in the ongoing edition. They, however, finished second in the Super-Eight stage to reach the semifinal. The defending champions will be keen to make it to consecutive finals in search of their third title at the tournament.
If the match gets abandoned due to rain, India will qualify as they finished at the top of the Super-Eight Group 1 points table. Meanwhile, England had finished second behind South Africa in Group 2.
