[Watch] Rashid Khan cleans up Bjorn Fortuin with a beauty for 16 in AFG vs RSA 1st ODI 2024 

Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan dismissed Bjorn Fortuin during the first ODI of the three-match series against South Africa on Wednesday, September 18. The game is being held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE.

The dismissal happened on the second ball of the 24th over. Rashid delivered a brilliant googly that pitched outside off. Fortuin played the wrong line, and the ball turned sharply, slipping through the gap between bat and pad to knock over the stumps.

The right-handed batter made 16 runs off 34 balls, hitting two boundaries. Fortuin's wicket left South Africa in a difficult position at 75/8 after 23.2 overs.


Afghanistan on top as South Africa gets bowled out for 106

South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. Fazalhaq Farooqi excelled for the hosts, striking early by dismissing Reeza Hendricks for nine in the third over. He then removed Proteas captain Aiden Markram for just two runs. Farooqi added his third wicket by getting rid of Tony de Zorzi for 11, putting South Africa under pressure.

Spinner Allah Ghazanfar made his mark by dismissing the dangerous Tristan Stubbs for a five-ball duck. The 18-year-old followed this by removing Jason Smith, who also fell for a five-ball duck. Wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne became the third victim of the off-spinner, departing for just 10 runs.

Andile Phehlukwayo was run out without scoring as the situation worsened for the visitors, who lost seven wickets during the powerplay. Bjorn Fortuin contributed 16 off 34 balls before being dismissed by Rashid Khan. Wiaan Mulder stood out as the lone fighter, scoring 52 runs off 84 balls, including five boundaries and one six.

Farooqi was the standout bowler for the hosts, claiming four wickets, while Ghazanfar took three. Rashid Khan contributed with two wickets as the Proteas were dismissed for 106 in 33.3 overs, marking the first time in history that Afghanistan has bowled them out in a white-ball match.
