[Watch] Rashid Khan throws bat in anger after Karim Janat refuses a double in AFG vs BAN 2024 T20 World Cup match

Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan lost his cool during his side's 2024 T20 World Cup match against Bangladesh at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent on Monday, June 24. After Rashid was denied a double by Karim Janat, the former looked furious and threw his bat in anger, which could’ve hurt his batting partner.

The incident took place in the 20th over of Afghanistan’s innings. Tanzim Hasan Sakib bowled a length ball and Rashid went for a helicopter shot over mid-wicket but only managed a leading edge over covers. He came charging for a second but was denied by Janat, who wanted to have a chat with Rashid who looked disinterested.

Following the incident, Janat gave his captain the strike by taking a single. Rashid finished it off in style with a six off the last delivery.

Afghanistan dominate Bangladesh in 2024 T20 World Cup match; Rain interrupts play again

A clinical bowling display has helped Afghanistan dominate Bangladesh in the 2024 T20 World Cup match. Fazalhaq Farooqi provided the first breakthrough by dismissing Tanzid Hasan for a duck. Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (run-a-ball 5) and Shakib Al Hasan (golden duck), respectively.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh were 31/3 after 3.2 overs, with Litton Das and Soumya Sarkar at the crease when rain interrupted play once again after the innings break.

Opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted 115/5 in 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz top scored with 43 runs off 55 balls, hitting one six and three boundaries. Ibrahim Zadran and Azmatullah chipped in double digits, scoring 18 (29) and 10 (12), respectively. Skipper Rashid Khan provided the late blitz, smashing three sixes to finish with an unbeaten 19 off 10 deliveries.

Rishad Hossain emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh, finishing with figures of 3/26, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman bagged one wicket apiece.

Afghanistan must beat Bangladesh to secure a place in the semifinals. A washout would also help them qualify in the last four. Meanwhile, Bangladesh have to chase the target against Afghanistan in 12.1 overs to reach the semis. Australia are also alive in the tournament and a win for Bangladesh would help them make it to the semifinals, barring the above margin.
