[Watch] Ravichandran Ashwin celebrates his 6th Test hundred in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test
Team India spin-bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin scored the sixth Test hundred of his career in the ongoing Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. This also happens to be Ashwin's fourth ton at this venue.
Ashwin walked out to bat with Team India on 144/6 after the loss of KL Rahul's wicket. He got a boundary off his second ball and didn't look, pacing his knock well and picking up runs whenever on offer. The key feature throughout his knock was how he dealt with Nahid Rana's bounce and pace along with Hasan Mahmud's bowling.
The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) took to their official account on X and posted a video of the Tamil Nadu all-rounder getting to the landmark. You can watch the video here:
This happens to be Ashwin's first Test hundred against Bangladesh. He has also scored Test tons against Australia (2) and England (3). The 38-year-old is also one of Team India's most prolific run-getters in this format at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Team India in a comfortable position at Stumps on Day 1 of the IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test
Team India finished Day 1 with some advantage. After being put into bat, the hosts started badly after Rohit Sharma (6 off 19), Shubman Gill (0 off 8) and Virat Kohli (6 off 6) were dismissed cheaply. Team India were reduced to 34/3 after an hour's play in the morning.
Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118) and Rishabh Pant (39 off 52) then stitched a handy partnership that brought the hosts back into the contest. Pant was dismissed looking to attack while Jaiswal got to his 50 and was dismissed soon after.
Ravindra Jadeja (86 off 117) and Ravichandran Ashwin (102 off 112) then joined hands and led India's charge. The duo went hard, with Ashwin going after Shakib Al Hasan and scoring runs at a good rate. Bangladesh looked everywhere but couldn't dismiss the duo, who have now stitched a partnership worth 195 runs.
Stumps have been taken on Day 1, with Team India on 339/6 after 80 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will bat tomorrow for the hosts, and look to set a big total on board.
