[Watch] Ravichandran Ashwin hurls a mouthful and gestures aggressively from the dugout during TNPL 2024 Eliminator clash 

Dindigul Dragons skipper Ravichandran Ashwin unleashed a tirade from the dugout in the dying moments of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 Eliminator clash against the Chepauk Super Gillies. The incident took place at the NPR College Ground on Wednesday, July 31.

The Dindigul Dragons were handed a target of 159, with Ashwin bowling his quota of four overs, conceding 33 runs in the process. During the run chase, the all-rounder, in his new avatar in the top order, scored 57 runs off 35 deliveries, which included four boundaries and as many sixes.

He was dismissed in the 14th over when the side were comfortably placed at 115-1. However, they began to lose their way in the chase as Chepauk Super Gillies fought back with wickets.

In the 17th over of the innings, by the time which the Dragons were five down, impact player Sharath Kumar received a reprieve following a dropped catch by the opposition skipper. With tempers already high over the deteriorating situation, coupled with the contest being a knockout, Ashwin was livid and started screaming from the dugout with some wild gestures to match it.

The Dindigul Dragons eventually chased down the target with one ball to spare and secured progress into the second qualifier. They will face the Tiruppur Tamizhans for a spot in the final.


Ravichandran Ashwin was adjudged player of the match for his stellar fifty

Ashwin's fifty, which came at a strike rate of 162.86, along with opening batter Shivam Singh's heroics, laid down the platform for the Dragons' nail-biting win.

"Pressure does these things (on the near collapse), we'll have to have a chat, but the important thing was we closed the game. It was an imperfect game, despite our shoddy bowling and fielding, we kept them down to a low score," Ashwin said during the post-match presentation.

Ravichandran Ashwin has scored 131 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 145.55. He also has eight wickets at an economy rate of 7.47.
