[WATCH] Ravichandran Ashwin outfoxes Shakib Al Hasan to open India's account on Day 4 of IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin provided a much-needed breakthrough for the home team on Day 4 of the India vs Bangladesh 1st Test match in Chennai. He got rid of experienced batter Shakib Al Hasan to boost the team's morale in their defense of 515.

Resuming the day on 158/4, the visitors started on a cautious note and steered the team without any rash shots. The duo of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib respected the Indian bowlers and picked specific balls to score runs. Despite Mohammed Siraj's sledging, skipper Shanto didn't lose his calm and tried to play out the right-arm pacer, who occasionally beat the outside edge of the batter.

In the 52nd over of the innings, Ashwin was brought into the attack for the first time on Sunday. With a slip and a short leg in place and a left-hander on strike, the stage was set for the off-spinner.

Off the fourth delivery, Shakib pressed forward to block the ball but could only manage an inside edge. He was caught by short-leg fielder Yashasvi Jaiswal, who showed quick reflexes to complete the dismissal.

Shakib made his way back to the hut for 25 off 56 as Ravichandran Ashwin broke the blossoming 48-run stand.
