Ravichandran Ashwin guides Dindigul Dragons to maiden TNPL title
Ravichandran Ashwin-led Dindigul Dragons won their maiden TNPL title on Sunday. They beat two-time winners and defending champions Lyca Kovai Kings by six wickets in the final.
Asked to bat first, the Kings managed 129/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with Ram Arvindh (27), Atheeq Ur Rahman (25), and Sujay (22) providing hefty contributions. Sandeep Warrier, Varun Chakaravarthy and P Vignesh bagged two wickets each for the Dragons.
In response, the Dragons achieved the target with 10 deliveries to spare. Apart from Ashwin, Baba Indrajith (32) and Sarath Kumar (27*) were the key run-scorers for the team.
Reacting to the win, Ashwin said in his post-match comments (via Cricbuzz):
“This win happened in the flow of things. We were the only team that lost to Salem in this tournament. We didn’t start the tournament very well but picked up momentum at the right time. The perfect match pretty much.”
“Leave the cricket aside, I had a great time going all around Tamil Nadu with this team. I think a lot of players have really pushed their limits this year. I have been wanting to play the full tournament for the last two years, but couldn’t play the whole season last time around. Glad I could play the whole season this time around,” he added.
Ravichandran Ashwin will next be in action for India in the Test series against Bangladesh next month.
