[Watch] Ravichandran Ashwin smashes a six-straight over bowler's head during his match-winning innings in TNPL final
Dindigul Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin smashed a brilliant six over the bowler’s head in the final of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2024 on Sunday, August 4, at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The summit clash of the TNPL pitted the Lyca Kovai Kings against the Dindigul Dragons.
Chasing a target of 130, the Dragons lost their first wicket in the second over. Ravichandran Ashwin came to the crease at No. 3. Facing only his fourth delivery, the right-handed batter whacked a ball from outside off to straight over the bowler’s head for a maximum.

The Dindigul Dragons captain carried his momentum from the Qualifier 2 game, where he scored 69 off 30 balls. On the night of the final, Ashwin played a sensible knock of 52 off 46 balls, smashing one boundary and three sixes to guide his team closer to the title.
Baba Indrajith played a decent hand of 32 runs. Towards the end, C Sarath Kumar played a brilliant cameo of 27 off 15 balls to take his team over the line. Dindigul Dragons won the game by six wickets with 10 balls remaining to lift their maiden TNPL trophy.
Dindigul Dragons bowlers scripted the famous win for their side
Ravichandran Ashwin won the toss and chose to ball first. Lyca Kovai Kings didn’t get an ideal start as Sandeep Warrier dismissed Suresh Kumar in the third over.
Varun Chakravarthy came to the party in the last over of the powerplay. The right-arm leg-break bowler took two wickets (S Sujay and U Mukilesh) in his first over as Lyca Kovai Kings lost three in the powerplay.
The Dindigul Dragons bowlers were brilliant, as they kept chipping away at regular intervals. Ram Arvindh (27) and Atheeq Ur Rahman (25) showed some fight as the Lyca Kovai Kings finished at 129/7 in their 20 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier and P Vignesh bagged two wickets each.
In response, it was a calculated chase by the Dindigul Dragons, as they won the game easily by six wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin won the Player of the Match award.
