[Watch] Ravindra Jadeja removes Will Young for 33, claiming India's second wicket on Day 2 of IND vs NZ 1st Test 2024
Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja secured India’s second breakthrough, dismissing Will Young, on Day 2 of their ongoing first Test against New Zealand on Thursday, October 17. The match is being played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The dismissal happened on the third ball of the 37th over. Jadeja bowled a full delivery on off-stump with ample flight. Young leaned in to play a sweep shot but couldn’t reach the pitch of the ball, resulting in a top edge that Kuldeep Yadav comfortably caught at short fine leg.
Here’s a video of the dismissal:
The New Zealand batter scored 33 runs off 73 balls, including five boundaries. Young's wicket left the Black Caps at 142 for two after 36.3 overs.
Devon Conway departs for 91 as New Zealand loses 3 wickets
The visitors started their first innings strongly, with openers Devon Conway and captain Tom Latham forming a 67-run partnership. Kuldeep Yadav claimed India’s first wicket, dismissing Latham for 15 runs off 49 balls.
Will Young, coming in at number three, contributed solidly with 33 runs. Conway narrowly missed out on a well-deserved century, scoring 91 off 105 balls, including 11 fours and three sixes.
At the time of writing, New Zealand were 161 for three after 41 overs, with Rachin Ravindra (13) and Daryl Mitchell (4) at the crease.
Earlier in the match, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, India struggled significantly. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just two runs off 16 balls, and five batters— Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin—were all dismissed for a duck.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 13 runs, while Rishabh Pant top-scored with 20 as the hosts were bowled out for 46 in 31.2 overs, marking their third-lowest total in Test history. Matt Henry was the standout bowler for the visitors, taking five wickets.
