[Watch] "Reloading and returning stronger" - Mohammed Shami trains hard as he gears up for comeback

Team India's veteran pacer Mohammed Shami has commenced his training, aiming for a comeback following a lengthy hiatus. The seasoned campaigner has been on the sidelines since the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Taking to his official Instagram handle on Friday, July 19, Shami shared a video, giving fans a glimpse of his recent practice session. The 33-year-old was doing some running exercises and bowling in the nets in the video.

Mohammed Shami stole the show with his bowling exploits at the 2023 ODI World Cup. He was benched during India's initial matches. However, he got into the lineup after all-rounder Hardik Pandya injured his ankle while playing against Bangladesh.

Hardik's injury arguably proved to be a blessing in disguise for Team India, as Shami went on an imperious run. He claimed 24 wickets from just seven outings, finishing as the highest wicket-taker of the edition. However, the team lost against Australia in the final.

Shami underwent an Achilles Tendon surgery earlier this year. It ruled him out of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the subsequent 2024 T20 World Cup.

"I also dream to win the World Cup" - Mohammed Shami on being ruled out of 2024 T20 World Cup

Mohammed Shami recently expressed his desire to win the World Cup for India. He pointed out that he couldn't do much during the recently concluded 2024 T20 World Cup as he was unfit.

On Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel, here's what Shami said about missing out on India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph:

"If I’m unfit today and sitting at home, I can only watch the sport as a fan. Those players are my friends and colleagues, I can only let them know what I feel from the outside to help them play better. There isn’t much in our hands. As far as the winners medal is concerned, I also dream to win the World Cup.
"I’ve never run away from situations, nor have I taken an easy way out of things. The more adversities I face, the stronger I become. I have more clarity. You look at 2015, I had most wickets. In 2019, I was the best performer. Same in 2023. Whenever I will get the opportunity, I will give my 100 percent."

India beat South Africa by seven runs in the 2024 T20 World Cup final at Barbados to win their second T20 World Cup trophy.
