[Watch] Rishabh Pant almost runs out Yashasvi Jaiswal with poor call in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test

Rishabh Pant almost ran out Yashasvi Jaiswal with a poor call on Day 1 of the opening Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The two players looked frenetic while running between the wickets after the hosts lost three early wickets in the first session.

One such incident took place in the 13th over of India’s first innings. Nahid Rana bowled a full-length ball and Pant played it behind the stumps before taking off for a single. It was a risky decision as the fielder at second slip rushed to collect the ball before taking a sigh at the stumps. Jaiswal rushed to complete the run and made a full-length dive at the last minute. A direct hit would’ve ended his stay at the crease.

Notably, Rishabh Pant is playing his first Test after a gap of 631 days. The 26-year-old is key to India’s success in the Test season, comprising 10 games against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal is the leading run-getter for Team India in the ongoing WTC 2023-25 cycle. He is the only second batter after Joe Root to score 1,000 runs in the said period.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant steady India after forgetful Day 1 start vs Bangladesh

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant have steadied India after a poor start against Bangladesh on Day 1. That came after India captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli departed for scores of 6,0,6, respectively.

At the time of writing, the hosts were 88-3 at Lunch, with Jaiswal and Pant at the crease. Hasan Mahmud has been the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers, returning with three wickets so far.

Bangladesh are coming on the back of a 2-0 clean sweep in their recently concluded Test series against Pakistan. They are yet to beat India in Tests, losing 11 out of 13 matches.

Meanwhile, India beat England 4-1 in their last Test series earlier this year.
