[Watch] Rishabh Pant is caught at slips for 20 in the IND vs NZ 2024 1st Test

Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 20 on Day 2 (Thursday, October 17) of the first Test between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru. Pant was one of only two batters to score in double digits.

After Sarfaraz Khan (0) was caught, Pant made his way to the middle and played a few dots before he got off the mark. He was offered a lifeline early on, with Tom Blundell shelling an easy caught-behind opportunity. Pant scored his first boundary immediately after the rain break and added another one, aiming to arrest the collapse of wickets around him.

However, Rishabh Pant soon became one of the victims of the wickets falling in heaps. On the third ball of the 26th over, the 27-year-old looked to go after Matt Henry but could only edge it to Tom Latham at the second slip.

Take a look at the dismissal below:

Pant was dismissed for 20 runs in 49 balls and became the eighth Indian wicket to fall when the team had only 39 runs on the board. His wicket brought leg spinner Kuldeep Yadav to the middle.

After winning the toss and being asked to bowl first, New Zealand shot down hosts India for just 46. Rishabh Pant (20 off 46) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (13 off 63) were the only batters to score in double digits for Team India as they registered their lowest total on home soil and third-lowest overall, in Test cricket. Matt Henry (5/15) and William O Rourke (4/22) starred with the ball for the visitors.

New Zealand have started strong, scoring 17/0 in four overs at the time of writing. They will be looking to set up a big total for Team India to scrape off in the third innings.
