Rishabh Pant got out in an unfortunate manner after his fighting knock on Day 3 of the third Test between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, November 3. The left-handed batter was adjudged caught out by the third umpire after scoring 64 runs off 57 balls, including one six and nine boundaries. Pant’s wicket helped the visitors fight back in the Test match, reducing India to 106/7 in a 147-run chase.
The dismissal came in the 22nd over of India’s second innings. Pant danced down the pitch but got nowhere close to the pitch of the ball. The ball popped up off the pad before going into the wicketkeeper Tom Blundell’s gloves. Ajaz Patel convinced skipper Tom Latham to go for a review and the third umpire adjudged it out. The replay showed that the ball hit the bat before hitting the pads.
Pant looked distraught with on-field umpire Richard Illingworth despite him adjudging it not out in the first place. He stood around for a while before slowly leaving the field in disappointment.

During his knock, Rishabh Pant became only the third Indian batter after Virender Sehwag and Yashasvi Jaiswal to score 50-plus in each innings of a Test at a 100+ strike rate. The left-hander slammed 60 off 59 deliveries in the first essay.
Meanwhile, Ajaz Patel became the third Kiwi spinner with two fifers in the same Test. He joined Daniel Vettori (twice) and Mitchell Santner in the record books. Overall, Ajaz became the third New Zealand bowler with multiple 10-wicket hauls after Richard Hadlee (9) and Daniel Vettori (3).

Rishabh Pant set up the match in India’s favor with his half-century in the fourh innings of the third Test. The innings of substance came when the top order failed to deliver.
At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 117/7, with Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin at the crease. Team India need 30 more runs for a consolation win in the three-match Test series. The Kiwis have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
