India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant gifted two-wheelers to his saviors Rajat and Nishu after recovering following his car accident, Australian outlet 7 Cricket have revealed. The duo pulled Pant out of the car before the vehicle went up in flames minutes after hitting a divider.
The left-handed batter was on his way from Delhi to Roorkee during the wee hours of December 30, 2022, when the accident occurred. The two were previously seen with Pant and his mother in a hospital.
The 27-year-old had sustained injuries to his head, back and feet. He was admitted to a local hospital before undergoing surgery in Mumbai.
The southpaw returned to competitive cricket after an extended rehabilitation with Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League after a 15-month gap. He soon won the 2024 T20 World Cup with the Men in Blue before hitting a century (109 vs Bangladesh in Chennai) on his Test comeback after 18-plus months.
He is now the favorite to become the costliest Indian player in IPL history at the 2025 mega-auction. Watch the video below:
“More gratitude, more humble, more hungry” – Rishabh Pant on his journey back to cricket after car accident
Rishabh Pant said he changed his perspective on life on his journey back to cricket after a car accident. He told Fox Sports (via The Times of India):
"I think one of the few most important things is like more gratitude in life, yes I would say cricket is part of it, but you are looking at things with a different perspective, because whatever that's happening in life is good, we are thinking life is not happening this way or that way, whatever happens in life is for good, that's the only thing, that's how I look at it. So more gratitude, more humble, more hungry, that's what I'll say."
Rishabh Pant was the architect behind India’s 2-1 Test series win in Australia in 2020/21. The left-handed batter had amassed 274 runs, including impactful scores of 97 and an unbeaten 89, where he led India to a series in Gabba. He will be looking to deliver in the remaining four Tests after returning with scores of 37 and one in the opening fixture.
