[Watch] Rishabh Pant livid with himself after being dismissed for 39 in IND vs BAN 2024 1st Test

Team India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant could not convert his start upon his return to red-ball cricket. He was dismissed for 39 runs off 52 deliveries early in the second session of the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, September 19.

Pant came into bat in the 10th over when India were in trouble at 34-3. He oversaw a crucial passage of play alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal to guide India through to the end of the first session without any more casualties.

The left-handed batter looked largely in control while playing in tricky conditions and a perilous circumstance. He chipped in with boundaries at regular intervals to keep the scoreboard ticking. After doing all the hard work in the first session, he was expected to build on the start and take advantage of the relatively easy conditions.

However, right after dispatching Hasan Mahmud for a boundary off the second delivery of the 26th over, he was dismissed while trying to go for another. Rishabh Pant went after a delivery well outside the off-stump but could only edge it to the wicketkeeper. Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Pant was not happy with the way he lost his wicket, as he slammed the bat onto his pad before making the long way back to the pavilion. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was also far from pleased with the wicketkeeper's judgement and was left shaking his head in disappointment.

Hasan Mahmud has picked up four wickets in succession with Rishabh Pant's dismissal

The in-form Bangladesh pacer bowled a probing seven-over spell to kickstart the contest, accounting for the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in quick succession. With Rishabh Pant's dismissal, he is now responsible for all four wickets to fall in the first Test so far.

At the time of writing, India are 112-4 after 30 overs, with KL Rahul coming into the middle after Pant's departure. Yashasvi Jaiswal is inching closer to his fifty, with the new batter settling at the other end.
