[Watch] Rishabh Pant perishes after a sluggish 15-run knock in IND vs AUS 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 clash

Team India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant had a mediocre outing against Australia in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 clash. He scored only 15 runs off 14 deliveries at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St.Lucia on Monday, June 24.

Pant came out to bat as early as the second over after Josh Hazlewood dismissed Virat Kohli with a sharp bouncer. The left-handed batter largely had to play second fiddle as skipper Rohit Sharma batted like a dream at the other end.

Pant had to negotiate Hazlewood's accuracy and had to settle for singles, before finally getting his first boundary off the 10th delivery of his innings. He then began the crucial match-up against leg-spinner Adam Zampa by scoring a six over long-on off the first delivery of his spell.

His patchy innings came to an end while trying to dispatch a full delivery by Marcus Stoinis over the leg side. He could only get a leading edge, resulting in the ball heading towards Hazlewood, who took a comfortable catch.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Rishabh Pant had perished to reverse sweeps in the Super 8 stage, and another soft dismissal was not the most ideal sign ahead of the knockout phase for the new No.3.

Team India well on top despite Rishabh Pant's untimely dismissal

The Men in Blue were largely not affected by Rishabh Pant's struggles out in the middle considering how seamlessly Rohit Sharma was batting at the other end. India were placed at 93/2 after eight overs in the first innings.

New batter Suryakumar Yadav also played second fiddle as Rohit continued to bat with intent and make the most of his start and form. The Hitman scored 92 runs off 41 deliveries before being castled by a Mitchell Starc yorker from around the wicket.

As of writing, India are placed at 142/3 after 13 overs, with Shivam Dube settling into the crease in the final phase of the middle overs.
