[Watch] Rishabh Pant run-out for a duck with Virat Kohli at the other end during 2nd IND vs NZ TestÂ
Team India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant departed for a duck after a run-out during Day 3 of the second Test against New Zealand at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium (MCA) Stadium in Pune on Saturday, October 26. He was caught well short of his crease while attempting a quick single in the fourth innings run chase.
Pant came into bat after Yashasvi Jaiswal's departure in the 22nd over. India's smooth start in the run chase took a slight wobble, and a partnership was the need of the hour. The wicket-keeper was joined by Virat Kohli at the other end, with Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner well settled in their spell.
Pant endured a nervy start, but survived the remainder of the Santner over after Jaiswal's wicket. During the second ball of the 23rd over, Kohli had tapped an Ajaz Patel delivery to point and burst out for a quick single. Despite the run being tight, and Pant's general running between the wickets being questionable at times, he committed and set off from his end.
Pant had the luxury of being in sight of the ball and fielder, but chose not to refuse and aimed to make it. However, Mitchell Santner executed a timely pick up and a sharp throw to wicket-keeper Tom Blundell, who did the rest. Pant was caught short of the crease despite a full-length dive.

This marked Rishabh Pant's third duck in Test cricket, and also his second instance of being run out. The only time he was run out prior to this also came against New Zealand during the 2020 tour.
Kohli and Pant were involved in a major running mix-up during the Bangladesh Test series as well
The pair of Kohli and Pant have not been the smoothest when it comes to running between the wickets. The wicket-keeper has often not been on the same wavelength as his senior, leading to several confusing moments out in the middle.
During the recent second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, the pair were involved in a major mix-up. Back then too, Kohli had taken off for a quick single, only for Pant to send him back. The ace batter was left stranded in the middle, a long way from his crease when Khaled Ahmed surprisingly missed a direct hit from close range.
Kohli had issued a glare in Pant's direction after the incident, with the latter attempting to pacify things with a hug.
