Indian team secured a 2-0 whitewash over Bangladesh at the Green Park in Kanpur on Tuesday (October 1). Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant launched a hit towards the long-on region as India won the second Test match by seven wickets.

The final day of the game resumed with Bangladesh at 26/2. Although Ravichandran Ashwin got rid of Mominul Haque, the visitors got support from Shadman Islam and Mushfiqur Rahim. However, Akash Deep broke their blossoming 55-run stand by taking the wicket of Islam (50).

The dismissal opened the floodgates for the Indian team. Rahim went on to score 37 as Bangladesh were bundled out for 146. Jasprit Bumrah, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja scalped three wickets apiece for the home team.

Chasing 95, India could not find hefty contributions from skipper Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6). Nevertheless, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his consistent form to hit 51 off 45 and kept the team's momentum intact.

In the end, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 29 off 37, while Rishabh Pant opened his account by slamming a boundary to finish the game.

This was notably the 18th consecutive Test series victory for the Indian team on home soil.


India maintain dominance in WTC standings with a sensational series victory against Bangladesh

The Rohit Sharma-led side improved their win percentage to 74.24 in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a series whitewash over Bangladesh.

India are at the top of the table with eight wins and two losses in 11 appearances. They have positioned themselves well ahead of a crucial series against New Zealand and Australia.

Despite two days of no play in Kanpur, India forced a result in the second Test match by their explosive strokeplay to attain 12 points for a win. They became the fastest team to reach the 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 marks in Test cricket history. Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 off 51) was the top-scorer for the Indian side.
