[Watch] Rishabh Pant stumps Moeen Ali for Axar Patel's 3rd scalp in IND vs ENG T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final
Team India left-arm spinner Axar Patel got the better of Moeen Ali in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final at Providence in Guyana on June 27. The all-rounder had the left-hander stumped by a considerable way, thereby picking up his third wicket of the innings.
The dismissal occurred in the eighth over of the innings as Axar came on for his third over. The ball from the 30-year-old clipped Moeen's thigh pad and the southpaw was out of his crease. However, Rishabh Pant dislodged the bails before he could get back and Moeen had to depart for 8 off 10 deliveries.
The Men in Blue had already got rid of Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow before dismissing Moeen in defence of 171 in 20 overs.
Axar Patel plays brief cameo to lift Team India to a healthy total in Guyana
The southpaw also slammed 10 off 6 deliveries, which included a one-handed six off Chris Jordan's bowling in the final over of the innings. With showers already predicted in Guyana, there was a delayed start as England sent India to bat first.
While Virat Kohli perished for another single-figure score, Rohit Sharma took the game on. He top-scored with 57 off 43 deliveries to follow with a 41-ball 92 against Australia.
Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 47 off 36 deliveries, while Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja hit quick-fire 23 and 17, respectively. Chris Jordan finished as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-0-37-3.
South Africa have already qualified for the final after beating Afghanistan by 10 wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. Bridgetown, Barbados will host the final on June 29. The Proteas are unbeaten so far in eight games, winning out of nowhere and mostly prevailing under pressure. With South Africa having never lifted a T20 World Cup, they will look to seize the opportunity.
