[Watch] Rishabh Pant takes a flying catch as Mohammed Siraj removes Steve Smith for 4 in BGT 2024-25 3rd Test

India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant took a brilliant catch down the leg side off Mohammed Siraj to dismiss first innings centurion Steve Smith cheaply on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test in Brisbane on Wednesday, December 18. The right-handed batter walked back for just four runs as the Aussies lost their fifth wicket for just 33 runs.

The dismissal came in the 11th over of Australia’s second innings. Siraj bowled a delivery that angled down the leg side and Smith tried to play it towards fine leg but only managed a faint edge before Pant flew to his left to grab a superb catch.

This was the fourth failure for Smith in the BGT 2024-25. He has scores of 0, 17, and 2 aside from his 101 in the first essay of the ongoing Test. Meanwhile, Siraj picked up this wicket of the innings and his 12th scalp of the series.


Mohammed Siraj joins Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep among wickets as India dismantle Australia in 2nd innings

A clinical bowling display from Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj helped India leave Australia in disarray during their second innings on Day 5. Bumrah got rid of Usman Khawaja (8) and Marnus Labuschagne (1). Meanwhile, Akash dismissed Nathan McSweeney (4) and Mitchell Marsh (2).

At the time of writing, Australia were 44/5, with Travis Head and Alex Carey at the crease. The hosts have extended their lead to 230 runs.

Earlier on Day 4, India avoided a follow-on after scoring 260 in their first innings, thanks to a 47-run partnership between Bumrah (10*) and Akash (31) for the last wicket. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with 84 and 77, respectively. Australia captain Pat Cummins bagged four wickets, while Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets.

Batting first, Australia posted 445. Head top scored with 152, while Smith scored 101. Alex Carey also chipped in with 70. Bumrah was the leading wicket-taker for the tourist, returning with a six-wicket haul.
