Parag had managed just seven runs in his previous outing in the T20I opener. The part-time spinner, though, bagged three wickets for just five runs. The Assam batter had made his debut in Zimbabwe earlier this month, where he returned with scores of 2 and 22, respectively.
Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan believes that the Assam-born all-rounder will get enough opportunities in Team India’s T20I side owing to his bowling ability. The cricketer-turned-commentator wrote on X:
“You will see Riyan Parag getting many chances due to his bowling ability. As a top-order batsman, not many in the country have the ability to roll their arm over. This is where Parag will get an extra advantage, and rightly so.”

Maheesh Theekshana starred with the ball for Sri Lanka, returning with exceptional figures of 3/28, while Wanindu Hasaranga bagged two wickets. Meanwhile, Chamindu Wickramsinghe, Asitha Fernando, and Ramesh Mendis scalped one apiece.
