[Watch] Riyan Parag traps Charith Asalanka in front during India vs Sri Lanka third ODI

Indian all-rounder Riyan Parag got his second wicket of the day in the form of Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka in the ongoing third ODI of the series. Asalanka departed for 10 runs off 12 deliveries.

India got their third wicket on the last ball of the 38th over. Asalanka tried to work a delivery pitched on the middle and leg stump line from Parag towards the leg side. However, the ball pitched and straightened just enough to miss his bat and hit his back leg and the umpire had no hesitation in giving that out.

Here's a video of the dismissal:

Riyan Parag and Virat Kohli were visibly fired up after the umpire raised his finger and understandably so as the Men in Blue were right back into the contest.

Riyan Parag's spell helps India claw back into the game

Sri Lanka opted to bat first once again and Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka added 89 runs for the first wicket. Nissanka tried to slog sweep Axar Patel and hit one straight up in the air and was caught by Rishabh Pant. Kusal Mendis and Fernando then got together and took the game forward for the Lankans.

Fernando, in particular, was happy to take the role of the aggressor as he kept scoring boundaries and sixes at regular intervals. At 171/1, even a score around the 300-run mark seemed possible for the Lankans. However, Riyan Parag stepped up and trapped Fernando right in front just four runs short of his hundred.

Riyan backed it up with Asalanka's wicket and the pressure has grown further on Sri Lanka. Mohammed Siraj has found some reverse swing and got India another wicket in the form of Sadeera Samarawickrama. The Men in Blue sense a situation where they can restrict Sri Lanka below the 250-run mark.
