The Indian captain completed his half-century off just 19 balls, making it the fastest fifty by an Indian batter in a T20 World Cup match against Australia. It was also the fastest fifty by an Indian captain in a T20 World Cup game.

It seemed like Rohit would become the first Indian skipper to hit a century at the T20 World Cup. However, he lost his stumps to Mitchell Starc just eight runs short of his century.
