[Watch] Rohit Sharma bursts into laughter with hilarious 'garden' reference during India's T20 World Cup felicitation at Wankhede Stadium
Indian captain Rohit Sharma led the Men in Blue to the 2024 T20 World Cup title in Barbados by beating South Africa in the final. By doing so, India became the first team in the history of the tournament to win the title by going undefeated throughout.
Apart from being an astute leader, Rohit is famous for his hilarious one-liners often caught on the stump mic. One of his one-liners that went viral during the Test series against England earlier this year was when he wanted the youngsters to show more discipline on the field. Here's what he had said, as heard on the stump mic:
"Koi garden mein nahi ghumega (no one will roam as if they are in a garden)."
Making a hilarious reference to the same while speaking as the host broadcaster, here's what Gaurav Kapur asked Rohit Sharma at the felicitation ceremony on Thursday (July 4):
"Is it safe to say that ek bhi match mein koi bhi ek bhi minute ke liye garden mein nahi ghuma? (is it safe to say that no player wasted time for even a minute by roaming in the garden?)"
Rohit couldn't control his laughter after hearing the question. Here's the video of his reaction:
Even players like Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Hardik Pandya were seen smiling after hearing the reference.
Rohit Sharma on his emotions leading the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024
Rohit Sharma claimed that he felt lucky to have had a team of players who were all capable of delivering the goods in crunch situations. He also shed light on the entire team buying into an ideology and then working as a unit to achieve their goal of winning the World Cup.
On this, he told the host broadcaster:
"I am very lucky to have a team like this who at any given time were ready to put their hand up and get the job done for the team. It will be unfair for me to name just a few individuals. It is the players and the entire support staff. It was the effort of the work that we started around 3-4 years ago and then for us to buy into the thought process that 'This is how we are going to play' takes a lot of courage. That's what the team did and I am very proud of it."
Rohit Sharma also thanked the crowd at the Wankhede Stadium for their thunderous reception and also several thousands outside who had flocked the Marine Drive to welcome the victorious Indian team.
