[Watch] Rohit Sharma and company go full throttle in net session ahead of IND vs BAN Test opener in Chennai

Rohit Sharma-led India underwent an intense practice session ahead of their first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Saturday, September 14. The match is scheduled to be at the MA Chidambaram Stadium from September 19 onwards.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on X, where all the players were seen practicing in full swing ahead of the opening Test. Both the bowlers and batters spent quality time in the nets after regrouping with coaches, including new bowling coach Morne Morkel, at the Madras Cricket Club.

Senior India batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who skipped 2024 Duleep Trophy matches, also made the most of the net session.

Notably, several players like Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja (rested for the Sri Lanka series) are coming on the back of a lengthy gap. They will look to get back into the groove. Meanwhile, Duleep Trophy-bound players like KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Akash Deep, among others will be keen to continue from where they left. off

The cricket board captioned the video:

“Preps in full swing here in Chennai! Inching closer to the #INDvsBAN Test opener.”

“They should’ve played” – Suresh Raina believes Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should’ve played Duleep Trophy

Former India cricketer Suresh Raina reckons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shouldn’t have skipped the 2024 Duleep Trophy.

The cricketer-turned-commentator recently told Sports Tak:

“Yes, they should’ve played, you see we haven’t played red-ball cricket ever since the IPL ended. Since we’re heading towards a crucial Test series, one must play 4-day cricket and get used to how the wicket will behave on Day 4.”
“I think they’re mature enough when they will regroup for 4-5 days and start practicing. Sometimes, family-time is also important,” Raina added.

Rohit played his last Test against England in March earlier this year. On the other hand, Kohli has not played a Test match since the second Test against South Africa this January.

India’s squad for the 1st Test of the Bangladesh Test series: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, and Yash Dayal.
