[Watch] Rohit Sharma departs cheaply as Mitchell Santner strikes on Day 3 of IND vs NZ 2024 2nd Test

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma perished for yet another low score, as Mitchell Santner dismissed him on Day 3 (Saturday, October 26) of the second Test against New Zealand in Pune. The right-handed batter got an inside edge onto the pad before it lobbed to the short-leg fielder for a simple catch.

The incident occurred in the sixth over of India's second innings. With Santner predicting the right-handed batter to come down the track, he slowed the ball down and changed his length. The pitch also generated extra bounce and the ball caught the edge of Rohit's bat before Will Young took a simple catch to see the 37-year-old walk back for eight.

Rohit Sharma made scores of 2 and 52 in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand. Tim Southee dismissed him for a duck in the first innings in Pune.

The left-arm spinner had used his skills and conditions to significant effect in India's first innings in Pune, as he registered career-best figures of 53-7. He dismissed Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Akash Deep, and Jasprit Bumrah. The Kiwis made a competitive 259 and held a 103-run lead on a pitch playing tricks.

In their second innings, visiting captain Tom Latham led the way with a composed 86-run knock, while Tom Blundell (41) and Glenn Phillips (48*) also made critical contributions, as the tourists reached 198/5 at Stumps on Day 2. Nevertheless, New Zealand could only add 57 runs to their score as Team India picked up the final five wickets in the first hour of Day 3. Jadeja snaffled three wickets and Washington Sundar was the pick of the bowlers with four scalps.

With a mammoth 359-run target set by New Zealand, India headed for Lunch at 81/1.
