[Watch] Rohit Sharma gets a grand welcome from childhood friends at home after returning to Mumbai as World Cup-winning captain

Team India captain Rohit Sharma received a grand welcome from his friends and family after returning home following the memorable 2024 T20 World Cup victory. The Men in Blue beat South Africa in the summit clash of the tournament on June 29 to become the world champions in the shortest format for a second time.

They won the trophy after a long wait of 17 years after the MS Dhoni-led side had won it in 2007. Rohit joined an elite club of legendary cricketers Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni as the third Indian captain to win a World Cup.

After being stranded in Barbados for a couple of days due to a hurricane, the Team India contingent landed in New Delhi on Thursday to a rousing reception from fans. They met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the morning and then travelled to Mumbai, where they participated in a victory parade with thousands of fans.

Rohit Sharma then got a special welcome from his friends when he finally reached home. They saluted him and lifted him up in joy. MI batter Tilak Varma was also present at the celebrations.

"His captaincy was the standout Indian performance of the tournament for me"- Irfan Pathan on Rohit Sharma after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently heaped praise on Rohit Sharma's leadership abilities after he lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Pathan pointed out that Sharma handled the pressure situations well during the tournament and felt he deserved credit for India's success. During a discussion on Star Sports on the matter, Irfan Pathan said:

"The main man running the show was Rohit Sharma. So Rohit's captaincy is something that has to be admired because never once during tense situations did his body language go down. The way he handled the situation when it was not looking good for India, that is deserving of the highest praise. That is why his captaincy was the standout Indian performance of the tournament for me."

He continued:

"We had MS Dhoni, the most successful Indian captain ever, but whenever you will talk about Rohit, you will say he was one of the most successful Indian captains. Imagine, if he had won the WTC trophy, the 50-over World Cup trophy, and the T20 World Cup now, he would have been the most successful Indian captain ever."
