[Watch] Rohit Sharma hoists the Indian flag on the ground in Barbados after winning 2024 T20 World Cup

Team India captain Rohit Sharma celebrated the 2024 T20 World Cup victory in a special way by hoisting the national flag on the ground in Barbados, where the final was played. In a thrilling summit clash, the Men in Blue withstood the Proteas team's intense challenge and eventually edged them out narrowly by seven runs.

It was a memorable and emotional triumph for Rohit Sharma, who was heartbroken along with millions of Indian fans following the loss against Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup in Ahmedabad last year in November.

Rohit returned to the T20I fold in January this year and was then entrusted to captain the side in the World Cup. He repaid the faith shown by the BCCI and the selectors by leading the Indian team from the front in the T20 World Cup.

Interestingly, BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah predicted the result of this tournament a couple of months back during an event, where he assured the fans that India would lift the trophy under Rohit Sharma in Barbados. Rohit fulfilled Jay Shah's wish by hoisting the Indian flag after the conclusion of the final on Saturday.

"A lot has gone in behind the scenes to win this game and the tournament"- Rohit Sharma after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup final vs South Africa

At the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma shed light on the hard work put in by the players and team management, saying:

"Very hard to sum up what we've been through for the last three or four years. We've worked very hard as individuals and as a team. A lot has gone in behind the scenes to win this game and the tournament. It's not today but what we've been doing for the last three or four years."

Sharma continued:

"And today is the perfect example of what to do when you have your backs to the wall. We stuck together as a team. South Africa were on top but overall as a group, we wanted this real bad. Lot of effort, lot of mind needs to come together. And I'm very very proud of the bunch of boys that I have and the management as well for giving us that liberty to go out there and play."
