[Watch] Rohit Sharma holes out to deep backward square as Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismisses him again in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd Test

Indian captain Rohit Sharma continued his flop show with the bat in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh on Tuesday, October 1. The right-handed batter holed out to Hasan Mahmud at deep backward square leg off Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the third over. Rohit departed for just 8 off seven balls as Miraz got him twice in the second Test in Kanpur. The off-spinner had cleaned up Rohit for just 23 runs in the first innings.

The dismissal came as Mehidy bowled a flighted delivery around off and Rohit knelt to ace the sweep shot but only managed to hit it straight to the fielder at deep backward square. The fielder didn’t move an inch to complete the dolly.

Rohit Sharma previously scored six and five runs in the first Test against Bangladesh. The 37-year-old will be looking to make amends in the upcoming three-match home Test series against New Zealand in October.

“Not good for Indian cricket” – Sanjay Manjrekar on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ignoring Duleep Trophy

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar recently reiterated that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should have played the Duleep Trophy ahead of the Test series against Bangladesh.

The cricketer-turned-commentator told ESPNCricinfo:

"Virat and Rohit not playing (Duleep Trophy) was not good for Indian cricket, nor was it good for the two players. Had they played the Duleep Trophy and had some time in the red-ball cricket, things would have been different."
"I'm not worried, but I'm sure somebody made a note of the fact that they would have been better off had they played some red-ball cricket. There was the option of picking them in the Duleep Trophy. So, one has to be careful about treating certain players differently and do what's best for Indian cricket and for the player," he added.

Kohli returned with scores of 6, 17, and 47 in his first three innings against Bangladesh.
