[Watch] Rohit Sharma out lbw for 3 off 23 to Scott Boland in BGT 2024-25 2nd Test
India captain Rohit Sharma departed cheaply on Day 1 (Friday, December 6) of the second Test against Australia in Adelaide. The right-handed batter walked back for just three runs off 23 balls. This was his first stint at No. 6 after 37 Tests.
The dismissal came in the 26th over of India’s first innings. Scott Boland bowled a full-length ball outside off that ripped back off the seam. Rohit went forward to defend but the ball beat the inside edge and hit his knee roll. He looked plumb and the on-field umpire gave the decision in a fraction of a second.

Rohit Sharma has been in dismal form over the last five Tests. The 37-year-old has managed 133 runs in 10 innings, including a solitary half-century. He sacrificed his opening spot for KL Rahul in the second Test against Australia following the latter’s heroics in the series opener in Perth.
“He’s not a big front-foot stride player” – Sanjay Manjrekar on under-fire Rohit Sharma
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar recently pointed out a weakness in Rohit Sharma’s batting after he managed just 91 runs in three Tests against New Zealand. Manjrekar said (via ESPNcricinfo):
“He’s not a big front-foot stride player but he wasn’t going on the backfoot at all or playing late but I just saw that he was little slipping where he was practicing in the nets and you got the impression that he was telling himself to get the front foot forward if he is going to keep playing forward or just play close to the ball.”
“He, like Virat Kohli, was only looking to get out on the front foot but not big a step. And when it comes to places like Australia and South Africa, that starts getting you into troubles,” he added.
Apart from Rohit, last match centurion Virat Kohli departed for just seven runs, caught by Steve Smith in the slip cordon off Mitchell Starc.
At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 100/5, with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rishabh Pant at the crease. Starc has been the pick of the Aussie bowlers, picking up three wickets, while Scott Boland has scalped two so far.
