[Watch] Rohit Sharma perishes after a brisk cameo in IND vs BAN 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 clash

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma could not capitalize on a perfect start, and was dismissed inside the powerplay itself in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 encounter at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday, June 22. He scored 23 runs off 11 deliveries with three fours and a six at a strike rate of 210.

Rohit came out with the intent to take down Bangladesh, who chose to begin with spin with the new ball. The Hitman played a stroke over mid-off to commence his innings and finished off the first over with a boundary. He once again found himself against a spinner when Shakib Al Hasan bowled the fourth over.

Rohit Sharma took down the veteran all-rounder with a mammoth 97-metre six and a four to enter his twenties. However, he tried to continue his onslaught by trying to slog a full delivery, but could get only a thick edge, leading to a simple catch for Jaker Ali.

Have a look at the dismissal right here.

The cameo from Rohit Sharma was a massive improvement from his outing in Barbados against Afghanistan recently. He struggled against the new ball, and was dismissed for just eight runs off 13 deliveries before being dismissed by Fazalhaq Farooqi.

This marked the 50th T20I dismissal for Shakib Al Hasan. The left-arm spinner had conceded 15 runs off his first over, but responded with a wicket in the second.

Rohit Sharma's brisk start has set the tempo, but India have lost wickets

There was a brief lull in scoring after Sharma's dismissal, but his start allowed India to finish with 53 runs in the powerplay phase. Virat Kohli looked in good touch to continue the momentum in the middle overs.

However, the Najmul Hossain-led side have clawed their way back into the match after Tanzim Sakib dismissed both Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in the same over.

As of writing, India are placed at 83/3 at the halfway mark of the innings with two left-handed batters Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube at the crease.
