[Watch] Rohit Sharma places the 2024 T20 World Cup at BCCI office

Team India captain Rohit Sharma headed to the BCCI headquarters following the grand celebrations in Mumbai to place the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. A video of the same was uploaded by the BCCI across their social media handles. The 37-year-old cricketer was accompanied by BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah.

The T20 World Cup 2024 crown is India's fourth World Cup win across formats. They won the 2011 ODI World Cup, 2007 T20 World Cup and the 1983 World Cup as well. The latest addition to the cabinet will find a place alongside the three aforementioned trophies.

India's arrival into the country was delayed by two days due to a hurricane in Barbados. The BCCI eventually arranged a special flight on Wednesday and Team India landed in Delhi on Thursday morning. Following this, they met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence and then flew to Mumbai for the celebrations on the same day.

During the felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, July 4, Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed joy to bring the World Cup to India after a long wait of 13 years. He said, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo:

"Bringing the World Cup to this country means the world to us. This is for the people who support and watch the game, and, along with all of us, for the last 11 years, they're the ones who've been wanting this trophy to come back. Finally it's here, and I'm very happy and relieved."

The Indian captain finished as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament, amassing 257 runs. The opener announced his retirement from T20I cricket after the final and did so as the leading run-getter in the format with 4231 runs in 159 fixtures.

Along with Rohit and Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja also announced his retirement from the format. The multi-nation event also marked Rahul Dravid's end of tenure as Team India's head coach.
