Rohit Sharma’s mother was captured on camera showering the Indian captain with hugs and kisses in a heartwarming moment after the Men in Blue's triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit became the second Indian captain to win a T20 World Cup when the Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the final on June 29 by seven runs.
Team India touched down in India in the early hours of July 4 from Barbados. The Men in Blue were received with great affection in New Delhi, where they also met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Later in the day, they participated in an open bus victory parade, which saw fans turn out in huge numbers.
Subsequently, Team India participated in the felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium. During the event, the Men in Blue were awarded INR 125 crore for winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. In addition, Team India engaged with the crowd by performing a lap of honor.

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after winning the T20 World Cup. In a post-match conference, Rohit said:
"This was my last game (T20I) as well. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup."
The Indian captain finished his T20I career as the highest run-getter in the format.

During the felicitation ceremony, Rohit Sharma thanked the Indian fans for their support. He said fans had waited for this moment for the last 11 years, and his team finally delivered.
"Obviously Mumbai never disappoints when it comes to winning the trophy. I would like to thank all the fans. For the last 11 years, they have wanted this trophy to come here and we have finally brought it here and I am relieved."
Rohit also commended Hardik Pandya for his composure in the final over, which helped India win the trophy in Barbados.
