[Watch] Rohit Sharma's stunned reaction after Virat Kohli's DRS blunder on Day 2 of the 1st IND vs BAN 2024 Test
Team India captain Rohit Sharma wore a look of disbelief after Virat Kohli refused to take the DRS for an lbw call on Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, September 20. Kohli was adjudged lbw to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in India's second innings for 17. He would have survived had he taken the review as UltraEdge showed a spike.
India ended Day 2 of the Chepauk Test in a dominating position. They were 81-3 in their second innings after 23 overs, with an overall lead of 308 runs. The day could have been even better for the hosts had Kohli returned unbeaten at stumps.
The former India captain was dismissed in the 20th over of the second innings. He looked to flick a delivery from Mehidy Hasan on the on-side but ended up being struck by the ball on the front pad. The umpire raised his finger in response to an appeal for leg before. Kohli consulted his batting partner Shubman Gill, but then walked off without reviewing the on-field call.
Replays later showed that the right-handed batter had hit the ball. A video of Indian captain Rohit clearly expressing his disappointment at the incident has gone viral on social media.
Following Kohli's dismissal, Gill (33*) and keeper-batter Rishabh Pant (12*) took the hosts to stumps without further damage.
Rohit Sharma fell cheaply for the second time in the Test
Earlier, Indian captain Rohit was dismissed for a single-figure score for the second time in the Test match. While he perished for six in the first innings, he was out for five in the second essay on Friday at Chepauk. The opener's mode of dismissal was also similar to the first innings. He was squared up by a good length ball from Taskin Ahmed that straightened a bit and gave a catch to third slip.
The hosts also lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (10) cheaply in the second innings. The southpaw tried to go after one from Nahid Rana but ended up edging the ball to the keeper. Jaiswal's wicket was followed by that of Kohli. Despite losing three wickets in the second innings, Team India are in a commanding position in the Chennai Test.
