[Watch] Rohit Sharma's stunning catch ends Steve Smith's masterclass in BGT 2024-25 3rd Test

Team India captain Rohit Sharma took a diving catch as they got the better of Steve Smith on Day 2 (Sunday, December 15) of the third Test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. With the right-handed batter edging one to the slip cordon, the visiting skipper dove well to complete the catch.

The dismissal came in the 83rd over of the innings as Jasprit Bumrah continued with the second new ball. With Smith looking to drive, all he could manage was an outside edge that flew to the Indian captain, who took it with little fuss. The wicket broke the 241-run partnership between Smith and Travis Head, as the former received a standing ovation on his way back to the dressing room.

The former Aussie captain scored his first century in 26 innings and reached the landmark for the first time since the Lord's Test during the Ashes series last year. The New South Welshman also notched up his 10th Test hundred against India, thereby equalling Joe Root.

The coin fell in favor of Rohit Sharma on Day 1 as he elected to bowl first, given the overcast conditions and the pitch being green. With the visiting bowlers failing to take a wicket in the 13.2 overs that were possible on Day 1, several experts debated the call, as some felt it was the right move to field first and others felt the opposite.

Team India carried out two changes heading to the Test in Brisbane, drafting in Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja for Harshit Rana and Ravichandran Ashwin. Australia brought in the now-fit Josh Hazlewood for Scott Boland, who despite playing a decisive role in their win in Adelaide, missed out. The five-Test series is locked at 1-1.
