[Watch] Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer burst into laughter as a fan says, "Sir abhi Champions Trophy jeetna hai bas" at Sri Lanka airport

India captain Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer burst into laughter as a fan asked the two cricketers to win the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Unfazed by India’s defeat to Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series, the fan said that winning the next ICC trophy is important.

Notably, the Men in Blue won the last ICC tournament – the 2024 T20 World Cup. They won the Champions Trophy in 2013 when the MS Dhoni-led side beat England in the final. India lost the last edition of the Champions Trophy final to arch-rivals Pakistan in 2017.

Here’s how the short conversation unfolded between the fan and two players:

Fan to Iyer:

“Sir abhi Champions Trophy jeetna hai bas Champions Trophy”

Iyer reacted:

“(chuckles with Rohit) Sir Champions Trophy”

“When I am captain there is no chance of that” – Rohit Sharma’s blunt response despite India losing the ODI series to Sri Lanka

India skipper Rohit Sharma slammed the question that the Men in Blue were complacent against Sri Lanka in ODIs after losing the three-match series 2-0. The 37-year-old said in his post-match comments (via Cricbuzz):

“It is a joke, when you are playing for India there is never going to be complacency. When I am captain there is no chance of that.”

Rohit also added that the spin was not a concern despite the visitors losing 27 wickets to spinners in the ODI series, saying:

“I don't think it is a concern (spin problems). But it is something we have to look at individually and as a gameplan.”

Notably, Team India lost their first-ever ODI series to Sri Lanka since 1997. The Rohit Sharma-led side will now focus on a long Test season. They will play a two-match Test series in Bangladesh next month. It will follow three Tests against New Zealand in October (both Test series at home). India will then travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
