[Watch] Rohit Sharma slams consecutive sixes off first two balls in IND vs BAN 2024 2nd TestÂ
Team India skipper Rohit Sharma was the epitome of intent yet again as he guided his side to a rocketing start in the first innings of the second Test against Bangladesh. He scored two sixes off his first two deliveries on the crease against Khaled Ahmed to make a statement to force a result in the rain-curtailed encounter.
After Day 2 and Day 3 of the second Test in Kanpur was washed out completely, India found themselves in a race against time to secure a win inside the remaining two days. The eight points hanging in the balance could mean huge for India as they still have to face New Zealand and Australia across eight Tests.
The bowlers played their part well by taking just over a session to bundle out Bangladesh for 233 in the first innings. Yashavi Jaiswal kicked things off by scoring three consecutive fours in the first over while Rohit Sharma matched the intent from the other end with brute force. Have a look at the twin sixes right here:
Team India have raced off to the 50-run mark in just three overs. This marks the quickest 50-run milestone in red-ball cricket as India beat England's recent record of 26 deliveries by some margin.
Rohit Sharma dismissed for 23 runs off 10 deliveries
The Indian skipper had got a reprieve after he had edged Hasan Mahmud to the keeper, but Bangladesh opted against going for the review with Mehidy Hasan being the sole candidate advocating it. The very next ball, Rohit Sharma hit his third six of the innings.
However, his cameo came to an end in the fourth over after Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled him. Rohit had begun the over with a boundary, but the off-spinner followed it up with three dot balls, eventually leading to the breakthrough for Bangladesh.
As of writing, India are placed at 55-1 after four overs with Shubman Gill coming into the crease at No. 3.
