[Watch] Rohit Sharma smashes a six on the second ball of India’s innings during IND vs SL 1st ODI
Rohit Sharma made his intention clear as he smoked a massive six on the second ball of India's innings during the first game of a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka put 230 runs on the board after deciding to bat first.
In reply, the Indian captain came all gun blazing, hitting a six on the second delivery on the wicket that was assisting bowlers. Rohit charged down the ground and swung through the line to hit the ball over deep mid-wicket for six runs.
Here’s the video of the shot:
Team India are off to a flyer while chasing a target of 231 runs. At the time of writing, the Men in Blue were 55/0 after six overs, needing 176 runs in 44 overs.
Rohit Sharma, who’s playing his first ODI since the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia, has carried on the intent of playing his shots early in the innings. The openers Rohit (41 off 25 balls) and Shubman Gill (10 off 11 balls) are at the crease for visitors.
Dunith Wellalage helps Sri Lanka post a respectable total on the board
Sri Lanka didn’t start well after deciding to bat first, as Mohammed Siraj got rid of Avishka Fernando (1) in the third over. His partner, Pathum Nissanka, played a brilliant inning of 56 runs off 75 balls before he was dismissed by the Washington Sundar.
However, middle-order batters Kusal Mendis (14), Sadeera Samarawickrama (8), and captain Charith Asalanka (14) didn’t contribute much for the hosts. It was Dunith Wellalage who struck his maiden fifty to take Sri Lanka to a decent total.
The left-handed batter remained unbeaten on 67 of 65 balls, hitting seven fours and two maximums. Sri Lanka finished at 230/8 in 50 overs. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel bagged two wickets each.
