[Watch] Rohit Sharma takes a hilarious dig at Australia over them being knocked out of 2024 T20 World Cup; fans react with cheeky comments
There was the mandatory lighthearted moment at Rohit Sharma's pre-match press conference ahead of the India vs England 2024 T20 World Cup semifinal in Guyana. The Indian captain did not miss out on the opportunity to take a cheeky dig at Australia over the Test and ODI world champions being knocked out of the ongoing ICC event.
The Men in Blue will take on England in the second semifinal of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. India beat Australia by 24 runs in their last Super 8 match in St Lucia. The result went a long way in the Aussies failing to make the semifinals. They had earlier gone down to Afghanistan as well by 21 runs in St Vincent.
At the pre-match press conference, Rohit was asked about the one big takeaway for him and the team from the Super 8 victory over Australia. He paused for a while, then smiled and cheekily replied:
"That there's no more Australian cricket team in this competition."
Rohit's witty response, as it often does, elicited spontaneous laughter among members of the media present for the interaction. Indian fans will never forget that the Men in Blue captain was in tears after Team India lost the 2023 ODI World Cup final to Australia by six wickets in Ahmedabad. They had been unbeaten heading into the final of the ICC event at home.
Fans also came up with interesting comments to the clip that was posted on ICC's official Instagram handle. Below are some of the reactions to Rohit's hilarious take on Australia being knocked out of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
