[Watch] Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli share a hug after crushing defeat in IND vs NZ 2024 2nd Test
Team India captain Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli were seen sharing a hug following the hosts' eye-opening Test series against New Zealand at home. A video of the heartwarming moment emerged on social media on Saturday, October 26.
Both Rohit and Virat have been facing criticism over their poor form with the bat throughout the two Tests. While the skipper has had scores of 2, 52, 0, and 8, the former captain has managed 0, 70, 1, and 17. The pair's low returns have been one of the main reasons behind India's maiden series loss at home to New Zealand.
The series defeat also proved to be India's first at home since 2012 against England and it's the first occasion since then that they lost back-to-back Tests.
"All our batters will need to work out their plans and trust those plans" - Rohit Sharma
Despite Team India's batting unit failing collectively, the 37-year-old brushed aside the need for soul searching. However, he urged every batter to come up with individual plans to get better. He said in the presser, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo:
"We have won 18 series [in a row] in India, which means we've done a lot of things well. We've batted well in the first innings; we've batted well in the second innings. Perhaps we haven't batted as well in this series as we should have, but these things happen.
"I don't want to do too much of a post-mortem, but we can look into how we can approach these situations differently. All our batters will need to work out their plans and trust those plans, [like] 'This is my plan and it will work'. It's a different thing if it doesn't work, but you need to trust it."
The third and final Test against New Zealand begins on November 1 in Mumbai.
