[Watch] Rovman Powell's monstrous six off Tim Southee in The Hundred

Rovman Powell smashed a huge six off Tim Southee in The Hundred clash between Trent Rockets and Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Wednesday, July 31. The right-handed batter deposited the ball over the deep mid-wicket for a 97-meter six.

The monstrous strike came off the 87th ball of Trent Rockets’ run chase. Southee bowled a length delivery angling into the leg stump and Powell went all guns blazing to send the ball outside the stands. It hit the boundary wall and stayed inside the ground.

Powell, however, fell prey to Southee off the next delivery. The Windies batter miscued a shot to sweeper cover as Jacob Bethell dived forward to take a stunning catch. He departed for 21 runs off 13 balls with the help of one six and two boundaries.

Rovman Powell’s knock ended in vain as Birmingham Phoenix beat Trent Rockets by six runs in The Hundred on Wednesday.

Asked to bat first, Phoenix put up 138/6 in their allotted 100 balls. Jacob Bethell starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 46 off 29 deliveries, comprising two sixes and three boundaries. Liam Livingstone and Ben Duckett also chipped in with scores of 30 (20) and 21 (17), respectively.

Rashid Khan emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Rockets, picking up two wickets, while Imad Wasim, Sam Cook, Joe Root, and skipper Lewis Gregory bagged one apiece.

In response, the Rockets managed 132/8. Apart from Rovman Powell, Alex Hales (38 off 30), Joe Root (33 off 19), and Sam Hain (15 off 18) got starts but failed to take the team over the line.

Dan Mousley starred with the ball for Phoenix, finishing with figures of 3/9, while Adam Milne scalped two wickets.

Despite the loss, Birmingham Phoenix stays at the top of The Hundred points table with two wins in three games owing to a better net run rate. Meanwhile, Birmingham Phoenix rose to the third spot with two wins in three matches.
