[Watch] Sanju Samson dismissed for 107 as Tristan Stubbs takes a fantastic catch in IND vs SA 2024 1st T20I

South African batter Tristan Stubbs took a spectacular catch on the boundary to see the back of Sanju Samson in the first T20I at the Kingsmead in Durban. The 24-year-old kept his cool at the fence and timed his jump perfectly to take the catch on November 8.

The dismissal occurred in the 16th over of the innings sent down by leg-spinner Nqabayomzi Peter, who conceded two singles in the first couple of deliveries. Samson sent the first dragged down delivery from the wrist-spinner over the mid-wicket region and looked to do it again. However, he miscued it and went it to the longer side of the ground as Stubbs took the catch in front of his face.

The Kerala-born cricketer took off from where left off in the third and final T20I of the previous series against Bangladesh at home. He scored back-to-back centuries, becoming the first batter to do in T20I cricket and reached the landmark only in 47 balls. However, he had to walk back for 107.

The Men in Blue eventually finished with 202/8 in their stipulated 20 overs despite looking on track for well over 210 at one stage. After the Proteas nipped out Tilak Varma for 33 off 18 deliveries, the likes of Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh and Axar Patel failed to produce the fireworks. The visitors could only manage 35 runs in the final five overs. Gerald Coetzee emerged as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4-0-37-3.

Nevertheless, the hosts had also already lost captain Aiden Markram in the very first over of the chase after hitting back-to-back boundaries. This is the first time the two sides are facing off since India beat South Africa in June 2024 to claim their second T20 World Cup title.
