[Watch] Sanvir Singh takes a brilliant catch running backwards to dismiss Ashutosh Sharma in SRH vs PBKS IPL 2024 clashÂ
SunRisers Hyderabad's (SRH) Sanvir Singh took a stellar catch to dismiss Ashutosh Sharma in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against the Punjab Kings (PBKS). The clash is underway at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday, May 19.
SRH were desperate to make a comeback in the contest after a blistering start by the makeshift PBKS opening combination. The Orange Army responded with wickets, and they were slowly crawling their way back into the scheme of things in the death overs.
T Natarajan was tasked with bowling the penultimate over and PBKS had to go all out to breach the 200-run mark. The responsibility fell on Ashutosh Sharma and skipper Jitesh Sharma. The former swung hard off the very first delivery of the over, but could only get height and no connection.
The ball skied towards cover, where Sanvir Singh had to run back to get into the right position. He caught the ball over his head and fell hard, but the ball did not leave his grasp to seal the wicket for SRH.
Have a look at the brilliant catch right here:
PBKS fought back in the final over after a lull in the death overs. Jitesh Sharma concluded the innings with a couple of sixes off Nitish Reddy to guide PBKS to 214/5 in 20 overs.
Sanvir Singh had clutched a stunner in SRH's win over LSG as well
The uncapped player has cemented his status as a gun fielder in the side. Even in the team's record win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their previous clash at home, Sanvir Singh had taken a brilliant catch at mid on to dismiss Marcus Stoinis.
The dismissal played a huge role in LSG's top-order collapse that forced them to remain content with 165 runs in the first innings.
SRH need a win to remain alive for a spot in the top two of the tournament. The Pat Cummins-led side currently have 15 points to their name after their recent clash against GT was washed out. Even if SRH chase down the mammoth score against PBKS, they will still need KKR to defeat RR in Guwahati.
If SRH finish third in the points table, then they will face the in-form Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Eliminator.
